What's New at the 'Dew:
Welcome to Spring in the Valley! Hopefully, everyone's beloved pets made it though the holidays without drama and without ingesting inappropriate substances.
According to the Pet Poison Hotline (800-213-6680) one of the most popular places dogs and cats find flavorful treasures is the Handbag!
The five most common purse items that are toxic to pets are:
1. Sugarless chewing gum and breath mints
2. Human medications
3. Asthma inhalers (albuterol)
4. Cigarettes
5. Hand Sanitizer

Could I ask you a favor? Now that we find our way to various businesses using search engines instead of the old Yellow Pages, we are encouraged to write reviews pertaining to our experience. This is a good way to help folks decide on, in our case, finding their veterinarian. If we have met your service expectations, please take a moment to log a favorable review about us. If we didn't satisfy your pet's needs, call me, the owner of DVMC, at 873-3458 and let me know so I can try to make things right for you.

Will you be visiting your friends and family or have folks visit you here in Las Vegas this Spring? Call our boarding facility, "Affordable Canine Cottages"! We offer a clean dry environment with kennel runs that have an indoor and outdoor layout that the dogs really seem to enjoy. We have over 70 runs, so chances are very good we can take your kids on short notice for most every holiday and get-away vacation season. This is a very good deal priced at $22/day for single occupancy; $32/day for 2 dogs in a run; $42/day for 3 dogs; and $52/day for 4 dogs in one run. The runs are 4 feet wide and approximately 16 feet deep with 10 feet of the run outside where they can sit in the sun. We close the dogs inside at 4:30PM with their blankets and sleeping platforms for safety and comfort.

EVERY MONTH IS DENTAL CARE MONTH!!!!  Yep! It's that time of year again. We have been sending out email and printed reminders to our dog and cat owners with pets 5-7 years old, but we do see many pets only 2-3 years old with noteworthy plaque and gum disease, so please consider taking advantage of our dental cleaning if the little dickens has bad breath or seems to have trouble chewing. Our prices are good all year long, not just in February!

DENTAL SPECIAL PRICE  $218.00 (pets under 5yrs)
                                                               $248.00 (pets over 5 yrs)
*Tooth extractions and oral antibiotics, if needed, are at an additional fee.

Vaccine Clinics are still held every Thursday afternoon (2-5pm) and Sundays (11am to 1pm). The great value is that you get an exam and the vaccines for just the price of the vaccines on those two days.
We offer the new Canine Influenza vaccine for H3N8 virus for $19/dose. This is a great adjuvant for dogs that are boarded and/or go to the dog park. Canine influenza is very contagious and usually mild, but it mimics bordatella, so it often goes untreated until it goes to pneumonia. Is it necessary for everyone? No, it's a life-style decision depending on how often your dog is around other dogs.

We offer Early Detection Screening packages for Cancer screening and Senior Pet Wellness Panels. These are great packages for dogs over 7 years old for detecting chronic diseases and treatable cancer. We are bundling the packages at $299.00. The screening packages are not for sick pets, but will apply where you have health concerns or feel something that doesn't seem right. Please inquire!

THE KIRSHBAUM FOUNDATION FOR ANIMALS

In these troubling economic times, the efforts of The Kirshbaum Foundation for Animals becomes even more important.  People and their loving companions, more than ever, need assistance in getting their animals spayed and neutered.  Through the Foundation's efforts, more dogs and cats are being spayed and neutered, decreasing the number of unwanted animals entering our municipal shelters.

The Foundation provides second chance housing facilities, so fewer animals are turned into the municipal shelters, thus decreasing the number of fine animals euthanized on a daily basis.  The Foundation's financial aid to Clark County Housing Seniors provides financial assistance to buy pet food and provide animal vaccinations so that our Seniors can enjoy the companionship of a pet.

Your financial contribution will allow The Foundation to provide these valuable programs, decreasing the number of stray animals and placing many more in loving homes.

Contributions to The Kirshbaum Foundation for Animals can be made at Dewey Veterinary Medical Center or by sending your check or money order to Dr. Eugene L. Kirshbaum Foundation for Animals 4800 W. Dewey Drive Las Vegas, NV  89118.  The Kirshbaum Foundation is a 501-C3 organization, making all contributions tax deductible.

Best Regards,
Steven Scott, President
